Not content with just bringing out music he's also brought out a book too called "This Was Not Part Of The MasterPlan"), a fascinating look back at how his incredibly varied life all started. "WhatchYaBack" harks back to a blaxploitation vibe/muted Miles period (props to Kenny Wellington) and the soulful strut of "Summertime" possibly my fave on this incredibly cohesive album (yes it's available on Vinyl too) should put a smile on your face and "Joyous" carries on the radiant positivity this duo emanates oh and the Bootsy bass definitely cuts the mustard! Suffice to say there plenty of great tunes left in the tank and the mini sermonising soothsayer that our Barrie is is all encompassing clearly showing a man whose content with himself, this could just bring him back into the main event.
Timeless stuff that will sound good way down the line as does (Master Plan btw) and there are definitely no fillers on this "Stand Up" with it's one chord pumping groove stands up too a moody little gem that's in a major key!
Sharpeye set the scene for an enthralling journey of beats basslines and dubby horns that brings new things to the table in terms of what's possible within what I would call classy dance music, leaving space for the glossy grooves to shine adorned with bitesize anthemic vocal hooks, it's a winning formula, co creator Gareth Tasker has waved his magic wand over this too, believe me Sharpeye are a deadly duo and it goes to prove the old addage that there is no accounting for experience and these guys have it in spades referencing Curtis, Marvin and others in a subtle yet enticing mixing bowl of goodness that just flows out effortlessly. Game changer, fashion icon, maverick, dancer, singer (I could go on) the rather bespoke Barrie K Sharpe makes a delightful return to the fray with this his sterling new platter emphatically entitled Rhythm, Rhyme, Revolution and the title track happens to be the opener setting a fine scene mixing a spiritual jazz vibe with some sharp afro beat inflections, fresh sounding and totally infectious.
